چکیده
Silicon modulators are promising devices for future optical networks to realize large capacity transmission with a low cost and a small footprint. In this paper, a silicon modulator for quadrature phase-shift-keying format is designed, fabricated and characterized. The fabricated modulator chip has short length of 3.5 mm, which is approximately one tenth of a widely used lithium niobate modulator chip. Quadrature phase-shift-keying modulation as high as 64 Gb/s has been achieved with a low bit-error-rate. The silicon modulator will be applied to 40and 100-Gb/s transmissions in the near future.

Silicon microring resonators are proposed to achieve ultrasmall differential quadrature phase-shift keying modulators and demodulators operated at 20 Gb/s, which may require a dramatically reduced chip size. The modulators are characterized in terms of the carrier transit time and misalignment of the driving signals, while the demodulation performance is analyzed in terms of the bandwidth and f...

We demonstrate high-speed (90-GBd) modulation of a polymer I/Q modulator achieving single-polarization quadtrature phase shift keyed (QPSK) data rates of 180 Gb/s. Introduction In-phase/quadrature (I/Q) optical modulators are key components for today’s coherent optical transmission systems. Increasing the modulation rate and moving to more complex modulation formats is necessary to achieve high...
متن کاملEffect of Nonlinear Phase Variation in Optical Millimetre Wave Radio over Fibre Systems
In this paper, we propose an optical millimetre wave radio-over-fibre (mm-wave RoF) system that uses a dual drive Mach Zehnder modulator (DD-MZM), which is biased at the maximum transmission biasing point, to generate an optical double sideband-suppressed carrier. The input to the DD-MZM are binary phase shift keying (BPSK), quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 8-phase shift keying (8-PSK) and...

This paper outlines the progress made on the use of subcarrier multiplexing (SCM) for high-speed datacommunications links over multimode fiber. Results include the demonstration of penalty-free transmission of 2.5 Gb/s data over worst case multimode fiber (MMF). A complete link demonstration of an SCM transmission system is reported, based on a quadrature phase-shift keying modulator and demodu...
